About the Project

                        This project is designed to test and experiment the growth of brussel sprouts seeds in certain percentage of sodium chloride salt. With the increase in salt in our soil, growing food is becoming gradually more difficult. This experiment is testing the idea of adaptation for certain environmental conditions, while some plants thrive with salty areas, others eventually will die off. We tested the salt levels with 8%, 4%,1%, and normal H20 salt levels. We are testing out how brussel sprouts grow in these type of conditions. Brussel sprouts are part of the Brassica oleracea group of food, which the food group the entire class is working with. This project is helping all of us more about our food and where it comes from. With this knowledge we will fully be aware of what is going on in the world.  This project will go on for the entire year and we will continue to take data that includes mesurements and photos.

Bios Ximena Larios   My name is Ximena and I have lived in San Jose, California my entire life. I have gardened a few times with my dad, but nothing major. I planted bonsai trees. My dad also knows a lot about planting, he enjoys potting plants and even took a class on the subject, he is incredibly skilled with planting but recently he stopped due to time issues. I however wish to continue to plan stuff and due to this project felt very inspired to do so. Planting is very fun for me too!

This week I have noticed that the plants have become more thicker at the roots. It also appears as if they have shed leaves as opposed to the normal growth of more leaves, but I think t his is due to the ac tual Brussels sprout plants and how the y will grown taller as opposed to growing wider and leafier. The plants participate in the water cycle due to the transportation of the water that originates in roots but then travels up to the top of the plant /leaves. I think that d ue to the actual plant and the type it didn ' t have the proper cells to fully transport the water to the leaves because the actual roots are long er. The plants trap in or us e the carbon in order to feed and b e s elf-s ustaining . Thes e plants  use up th e carbon to create sugar for thems elv es and to move along the process of photosynthesis .
